Photos that the Harold Washington

Some crazy art on the way up to the third floor of the Chicago Public Library. This library is full of incredible art. It has everything from paintings and sculptures, to historical artifacts such as cannons and civil war era paintings of Custer. It is truly an extensive collection.

I tried and tried to figure out this artwork...but I couldn't. Does anyone know what it means? I wonder what it's point is. Overall, I was not very impressed with the artwork at this library, except for the circular painting representing the explorer's voyage on the bottom floor. I enjoyed that very much, and it makes me wonder exactly what each leg of his journey represents.
